We, Curatorial Trainees, have recently been working with the National Collection of Aerial Photography (NCAP) here at RCAHMS. The NCAP collection is one of the largest collections of aerial imagery in the world and contains millions of aerial photographs which the team collect and preserve in original and digital format. Curatorial Traineeship Placements

We collections trainees (Lynsey, Alison, Kayleigh, Louise, Bruce and I) are in the middle of our two week long placements.  Each of us are at different archives. I am at the Dundee University Archives in the office of Archive, Records Management and Museum Services.  The collections relate to the University and mostly to organisations in the Tayside area.  Material in the archives include extensive material from Dundee’s famous Jute and Linen Industry.  There is also the NHS Tayside archives containing fascinating records from many hospitals and various other institutions.  I…read more

Collections Update

 Above: Elephants at Newhall taken in 1996 in the walled garden.   The past couple of weeks here at RCAHMS have seen the collection trainees busy with cataloguing projects.  I have been organising a collection of coloured slides, taken over a period of around 40 years.  There are around 1600 slides in the collection as well as one film of colour photographs!  They belonged to a woman who had a keen eye for photography and enjoyed historic buildings and gardens.  Included in this collection are some lovely images of Newhall’s…read more
